Savile Row Rains on Abercrombie’s Opening Party
The fine tailors of Savile Row have been locked in a battle with Abercrombie & Fitch since they opened their first store a couple of years ago. You see, Savile row has been around since the late 1800′s. It’s tailors have designed bespoke suits for everyone from Napoleon to Winston Churchill. Which is why they took issue to “the jeans maker” A&F is referred to.
When there were plans for A&F to open a second store on the Row, the businesses did everything they could to nip those plans in the bud with the Wesminster City Council.
Local municipal authorities released the following statement to the media.
“Savile Row has a unique character — currently there are no high-street chains present,” a spokesperson for Wesminster City Council said. “A management plan should be put in place to ensure this character is retained.”
The move seemed to have worked. Plans for the opening of the second store are reportedly on hold.
