Common Men’s Style Mistakes

July 31, 2012

Style

As I’ve mentioned before there aren’t any real rules when it comes to fashion and style.  However, there’s a lot that you can get wrong.

Here are Three of the more common style mistakes that guys make.

Misbuttoning

It stands to reason that buttons serve a purpose.  Just because you have them doesn’t mean that you should use all of them.  Follow this simple rule of thumb.  Leave the bottom button of the article of clothing that you are wearing unbuttoned.

Wearing a two button blazer? Only button the top button.  If you’re wearing a five or six button blazer, you’re going to need a lot more than advice on common style mistakes.

Sock Faux Pas

The saying goes the devil is in the details.  If you’re going to take care in your outward appearance, don’t fall short on your most basic accessories like socks.  Gym socks should remain in the gym, and make sure that your dress socks compliment your pants.

If you are wearing shorts, make sure your socks are as short as possible. Try perfecting the art of going sockless in some cases.  If you are looking for some socks with personality, try Happy Socks.

Overt Designer Labels

I was guilty of this back in my college days.  I paid an arm and a leg for my Tommy Hilfiger shirts and I wanted everyone to know that I was Tommy down to my socks. That may have been o.k. back then, but discretion is the new rule when it comes to style and fashion.

Tone down your wardrobe with basics and designer essentials.  If you are worried about being fashion forward.  Don’t worry, those who know, will know.

Money may buy you expensive clothes, but it doesn’t buy you style.  You make the clothes, the clothes don’t make you.
