If you find yourself with a suit that has a less than optimal beginning, here are a few reasons to get your suit tailored.
Sleeve Length - There are very few things that can ruin the overall impression of a suit as much as the wrong sleeve length. Make sure you have them lengthened or shortened to perfection. If you don’t feel comfortable with the buttonholes, make sure you get those fixed as well.
Neck Shelf - The unflattering horizontal fold that may arise in some suits just over the back, is called a “neck rack”. This is common in most guys with broad, straight shoulders. This can be hard to discover yourself, so have a tailor pay special attention to this area.
Waist - In most cases, the waist of a suit jacket can be corrected without affecting the overall integrity of the jacket. Here at Jobtrakr, we prefer modern or slim fitting suits with wider lapels. A style that dates back to the 1930′s.
Suit pants have come a very long way way. Once you’ve decided on an optimal length, you can then decide if you want a crease so the pants break ever so slightly just where the pants meet your shoes.
Waistband – This is pretty self explanatory. If you want a slim fitting look, go with your exact waist size. Extra material will make you look heavier than you actually are.
Foot Width – Off the rack suits, as good as some of them look, rarely look as good as the ones that come off the runways of Fashion Week. You can still accomplish that same look by working with your tailor. A good foot width is about 18 cm.
